About M-Pesa (Safaricom) statements
M-Pesa is Safaricom's mobile money service in Kenya, used for person-to-person transfers, bill payments through Paybill numbers and merchant payments through Buy Goods till numbers.
An M-PESA statement records mobile money activity rather than a bank account. Lines typically carry a receipt number, completion time, transaction details, status, amount paid in, amount withdrawn and the balance. Statements from the M-PESA App or *334# are stamped, and those requested through *334# are emailed with an SMS code needed to open them.
Typical Kenya statement headings and where they go in your export:
| On the statement | In your export |
|---|---|
| Transaction Date | Date |
| Value Date | Ignored (posting / value date) |
| Narrative | Description |
| Debit | Debit (and negative Amount) |
| Credit | Credit (and positive Amount) |
| Paid In | Credit (and positive Amount) |
Also known as Mpesa, Safaricom M-Pesa and M-Pesa Kenya.

M-Pesa statement PDF password
When you request a statement through *334#, Safaricom sends an SMS with the code you use to open the emailed statement. There is no fixed format: use the code from the SMS for that particular request.
Type the password into the converter when it asks. It is used only inside your browser to open the file and is never sent anywhere.
Tips for converting M-Pesa statements
- Emailed M-PESA statements open with the code sent by SMS. Type that code into the converter; it is used only in your browser to unlock the PDF.
- Paid in and withdrawn amounts map to Credit and Debit with the balance kept alongside, so the balance check can confirm every M-PESA row.
- A two-year M-PESA statement can run to many pages. Export once to Excel and filter the details column to separate personal and business payments.
Importing M-Pesa transactions into accounting software
For QuickBooks, Sage and Xero, export CSV or OFX after checking the preview. Amounts are written as plain numbers without the KSh sign, so they import cleanly as values. Step-by-step help: QuickBooks, Xero.
