How to convert a bank statement to CSV
    1. Add your PDF statements. Drag one or more PDF bank or credit card statements into the converter, or click to choose them. Password-protected files ask for the password, which is used only on your device.
    2. Check the preview. Transactions appear in an editable table with dates, descriptions, money in, money out and balance. The balance check flags any row that does not add up, so you can fix it in a click.
    3. Download CSV. Export to Excel (.xlsx), CSV, OFX or JSON, or copy the table straight into Google Sheets. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

A CSV layout that stays the same every month

CSV is the most widely accepted format for moving transactions between systems, but only if the columns are consistent. Every statement you convert here, from any bank, produces the same header row:

    Date,Description,Debit,Credit,Amount,Balance
    2026-10-02,Salary ACME Widgets Pty Ltd,,3200.00,3200.00,5700.00
    2026-10-03,Rent Payment October,1450.00,,-1450.00,4250.00

Amounts are written with a dot as the decimal separator and no thousands separators, which is what import tools and programming languages expect. Text containing commas or quotes is quoted correctly, and the file is UTF-8 so names with accents, the euro sign and non-Latin characters survive intact.

Two ways to represent money in and out

Different software wants amounts in different shapes, so the CSV includes both. Use Amount if your tool expects a single signed column, which is common for QuickBooks Online three-column imports, many budgeting apps and custom scripts. Use Debit and Credit if it expects separate positive columns, as in four-column imports and most general-ledger templates. Delete the columns you do not need, or map them during import.

    Choosing the right date format

Date format is the single most common reason a CSV import fails. Before exporting, pick the output format in the converter's toolbar. ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD) are unambiguous and best for databases and code. For accounting software, match the region your company file is set to. The converter separately detects how dates are written on the statement itself, so a UK statement can be exported with US-style dates if that is what your system needs.

Combine many statements into one CSV

Add a year of statements at once and the converter merges them into one CSV in the order you added them, with a Source file column so every row can be traced back to its PDF. That makes it easy to load a full history into a database or a single accounting import, and to filter by statement later if you need to check something.

    Where to use your CSV

    • Accounting: QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Zoho Books, FreeAgent, Wave.
    • Spreadsheets: Google Sheets, Excel, LibreOffice and Numbers. Prefer formatted Excel? Export .xlsx instead.
    • Budgeting tools that accept CSV imports.
    • Databases and code: PostgreSQL COPY, pandas read_csv, or JSON for APIs.

What columns are in the CSV file?

Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Amount and Balance, in that order. A Reference column is added when the statement has cheque or reference numbers, and a Source file column when you convert several PDFs together.

Which date format should I choose for my CSV?

Pick the format your destination expects. Accounting software set up for the US usually wants MM/DD/YYYY, the UK, India and Australia DD/MM/YYYY, and databases or scripts are safest with YYYY-MM-DD.

Why does my CSV show strange characters in Excel?

The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark so Excel recognises accented letters and currency symbols correctly. If you see odd characters in another program, open the file with UTF-8 encoding selected.

    Is the amount column signed?

Yes. Amount is negative for money out and positive for money in. Debit and Credit hold the same values as positive numbers in separate columns, so you can use whichever layout your software needs.

Can I convert a CSV back into a PDF?

No. This tool only reads PDF statements and turns them into data files. The original PDF from your bank remains the official record.
