About Bank of New Zealand statements

Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is a subsidiary of National Australia Bank serving personal and business customers.

BNZ keeps statements in a Documents area grouped by category, such as Statements and Tax certificates, alongside loan summaries and KiwiSaver statements. Each statement opens as a PDF that can be printed, saved or emailed, and it can be downloaded as often as needed. Everyday accounts have seven years of documents online, and closed accounts are listed at the bottom of each category.

Typical New Zealand statement headings and where they go in your export:

    Also known as BNZ Bank.

How to download your BNZ statement as a PDF

    1. Log in to BNZ Internet Banking.
    2. Click Menu, then Documents.
    3. Choose a category such as Statements.
    4. Click the account, then the statement to open the PDF.
    5. Print or save it; use Show closed accounts for older accounts.

Seven years of documents for everyday accounts; closed accounts appear under Show closed accounts.

Menu names can change between app and website versions.

BNZ CSV and Excel downloads vs converting the PDF

From an account screen, BNZ Internet Banking's Export option creates CSV, QIF or GIFTS files over a chosen date range for Excel, Microsoft Money, Quicken or QuickBooks. BNZ doesn't publish a maximum range, so PDF statements remain useful for older periods.

Converting the PDF statement is useful when you need periods outside that window, an account that is closed, or the exact figures printed on the official statement, including the running balance for reconciliation.

    Tips for converting BNZ statements

    • BNZ statements can be emailed straight to an accountant; if they arrive as PDFs, combine the year’s files in the converter and export a single OFX for Xero.
    • Statements for closed BNZ accounts sit under Show closed accounts; converting them is a simple way to bring that history into a spreadsheet.

Importing BNZ transactions into accounting software

For Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks, export CSV or OFX after checking the preview. Amounts are written as plain numbers without the $ sign, so they import cleanly as values. Step-by-step help: Xero, QuickBooks.
