About Bank of Montreal statements
BMO (Bank of Montreal) is one of Canada's 'Big Five' banks and also operates in the United States as BMO Bank.
BMO chequing statements describe money in and out in plain wording: the transaction table has columns for amounts deducted from your account and amounts added to your account, alongside Date, Description and Balance. A summary of the opening and closing balances for the period comes before the detail. Electronic statements carry the same layout and details as the paper version.

BMO CSV and Excel downloads vs converting the PDF
BMO's digital banking help describes exporting transactions in QuickBooks, Quicken or CSV format, one account at a time, with date filters. Online transaction history is limited, so the statements kept for seven years are the fuller record.
Converting the PDF statement is useful when you need periods outside that window, an account that is closed, or the exact figures printed on the official statement, including the running balance for reconciliation.
Tips for converting BMO statements
- The converter maps BMO's Amounts deducted and Amounts added columns to Debit and Credit; check the first few rows to confirm the mapping before exporting.
- With a running Balance column on the statement, the balance check quickly catches a wrapped description that split into a separate line.
Importing BMO transactions into accounting software
For QuickBooks, Xero, Sage 50 and Wave, export CSV or OFX after checking the preview. Amounts are written as plain numbers without the $ sign, so they import cleanly as values. Step-by-step help: QuickBooks, Xero.
