About Commonwealth Bank of Australia statements
Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) is headquartered in Sydney, and customers download statements through its NetBank online banking and the CommBank app.
CommBank account statements list activity in one table with Date, Transaction, Debit, Credit and Balance columns. The table opens with an opening balance row and ends with a closing balance, and the running balance carries a CR suffix while the account is in credit. Row dates are short day-and-month values such as 14 Aug, with the year shown only in the statement period at the top. Card purchases can run onto a second line that adds a value date.
Columns on a CommBank statement and where they go in your export:
| On the statement | In your export |
|---|---|
| Date | Date |
| Transaction | Description |
| Debit | Debit (and negative Amount) |
| Credit | Credit (and positive Amount) |
| Balance | Balance |

CommBank CSV and Excel downloads vs converting the PDF
NetBank on a computer offers a transaction export for spreadsheets and accounting packages, but CommBank's help pages don't state how far back it reaches. PDF statements stay online for up to seven years, so converting them covers periods the export no longer shows.
Converting the PDF statement is useful when you need periods outside that window, an account that is closed, or the exact figures printed on the official statement, including the running balance for reconciliation.
Tips for converting CommBank statements
- CommBank prints running balances with a CR suffix; the converter reads these as positive balances and still re-adds every row in the balance check.
- Row dates on CommBank statements show only the day and month, such as 14 Aug; the converter completes the year from the statement period printed at the top.
- Card purchases that wrap onto a second line with a value date are joined into one description, so the extra date never becomes a separate transaction row.
Importing CommBank transactions into accounting software
For Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Reckon, export CSV or OFX after checking the preview. Amounts are written as plain numbers without the $ sign, so they import cleanly as values. Step-by-step help: Xero, QuickBooks.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a CommBank statement as a PDF?
Log on to NetBank and go to View accounts, then Statements. Choose the account from the View statements for list, open the period you need and save the PDF. The CommBank app also shows your statements, and NetBank can email a statement directly, which helps when an accountant asks for copies.
How far back can I get CommBank statements online?
CommBank keeps online statements for up to seven years while an account is open. Once an account is closed, its online statements stay available for up to two years, so download anything you need before that window ends. For older periods, contact CommBank.
Can I turn a CommBank statement into OFX for Xero or MYOB?
Yes. Add the PDF to the converter, check that Date, Transaction, Debit, Credit and Balance are mapped correctly, then export OFX. Processing happens in your browser, so the file is not uploaded. This is handy for closed accounts or older periods that the NetBank export no longer reaches.
Is it safe to convert my CommBank statement here?
Yes. The conversion happens on your own device; your CommBank statement is not uploaded, stored or shared. This site is independent and not affiliated with Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
