About Nationwide Building Society statements
Nationwide is a member-owned building society headquartered in Swindon, offering current accounts such as the FlexAccount alongside savings and mortgages.
Nationwide statements list the account balance, the transactions for the period, any arranged overdraft limit, the sort code and account number, and IBAN, BIC and SWIFT details. If arranged overdraft fees or charges apply, a Notice of Charges appears at the end. Paper statements are monthly unless you are paperless or hold a FlexDirect account, and the internet bank keeps 36 months of PDF statements.

Nationwide CSV and Excel downloads vs converting the PDF
Current account statements are PDFs. The internet bank's 'Download transactions' option provides a midata file of 12 months of current account transactions, excluding the latest 31 days, and credit card transactions can be downloaded from the statement archive.
Converting the PDF statement is useful when you need periods outside that window, an account that is closed, or the exact figures printed on the official statement, including the running balance for reconciliation.
Tips for converting Nationwide statements
- The internet bank shows only 15 months of transactions but keeps 36 months of PDF statements, so convert the older PDFs to fill the gap in Excel or OFX.
- Check the preview for the Notice of Charges at the end of a statement; the fees listed there are a summary, not extra transactions to import.
- After closing a current account you can still view three years of statements online, so convert and archive them before that access runs out.
Importing Nationwide transactions into accounting software
For Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent, export CSV or OFX after checking the preview. Amounts are written as plain numbers without the £ sign, so they import cleanly as values. Step-by-step help: Xero, QuickBooks.
